Yes, I’m still having fun with misherad lyrics. This morning’s bit was taken from a line in a Van Halen tune that I couldn’t remember properly, and neither could the first guy I found when doing a Google search for the lyric. I know, not as epic as misheard Hendrix, but that bit ‘…your little guitars sing to me’ has stuck with me for decades, so I had to know. I still don’t know. All I do know is, the preceding line is most definitely NOT ‘etch-a-sketch, etch-a-sketch’, which might just be as epic as the Hendrix mondegreen.
A mondegreen I still enjoy better than the original lyric comes from my misinterpretation of a few liens from Supper’s Ready, by Genesis. I was trying to lift the lyric while listening to an old casette copy I had, and somehow, the line ‘With Gog and Magog swarming around’ became ‘With the gods of makeup, swarming around’. Silly, but that line works for me so well, I wish I had a place in a song for it. I may have to write a song just so I can work that line in.
In other news, I am nearing completion of the Glossary for ASHES: Infinite Redress. There are enough strange terms and concepts in the story that I finally realised I needed one, so I’ve been scouring the novella to find all of the terms I’ve used, whilst ostensibly correcting any references that I mislabelled or haven’t correctred from the old version. Lines are getting rewritten as I go, but I still need to clear the decks of this glassary business so I can focus on the rewrites. I still think it will be done by Friday or Saturday, but I must admit, it feels like it’s taking longer than it should.
That might be a function of the fact that I’ve been reading and writing since 5 AM, and despite a failed attempt to get a short nap in around 11, I’m still working. The problem with the rewrite/edit stage is, I’m usually not focused well enough to edit before noon, which means I spend the whole morning doing blogging and social netowrking and whatever other bits of non-writing I can manage, unless I feel the urge to write come over me, in which case, hey, make hey while the sun shines, baby!
I should get back to work. I don’t particualrly want to, but once I actually settle down and start filling in the blanks of the glossary, it comes pretty fluidly. The thing is, I can’t seem to resist the urge to write the entries in a Douglas Adams/Terry Pratchett style. It’s hard fo r me to write anything that’s too serious for too long. I actually want people to be entertained when I write. What has happened to me?
Okay, heading back. Hope you all are having a fine day. What’s for dinner?
